US award for England's Jodi Ewart
December 8, 2008

English strokeplay champion Jodi Ewart  has won yet another accolade for her performances in US women's college golf.

Jodi, whose home club is Catterick in Yorkshire, has been picked out by Golf World in its mid-season awards for 2008-09. She's one of 12-players selected for its women's mid-season All-American team.

This term, the University of New Mexico student has played in three tournaments, won one and had two top-five finishes.

This is the latest in a string of US honours for Jodi and comes at the end of an  excellent year for the 20-year-old.  Earlier in the season she represented GB&I in the Curtis Cup, successfully defended her English strokeplay title, made the cut in her first LET professional tournament, and helped England to seventh place in the Women's World Amateur Team Championship.

Meanwhile, Essex golfer Nicola Race (left) has signed a letter of intent to join the University of Missouri in autumn 2009.

Nicola has already proved herself to be a winner in the US, where she is currently studying at a junior college, the Redland Community College in El Reno, Oklahoma.

The 19-year-old from Witham won the 2008 National Junior College Championship and helped her college to win the team trophy.

Missouri University head coach, Stephanie Priesmeyer, said: "Nicola obviously brings to our team some great college experience. She is a proven winner on the course and has had that national tournament experience that will help our team immensely next fall. It is very difficult to be a champion in our sport and she has one national title already under her belt. We can't wait for her to join our team and help us reach our goals of competing at the national tournament."

Before Nicola started her university career she was a member at Chelmsford Golf Club and trained with the English Women's Golf Association Select South East Squad.
