26th February 2010

Wales international Amy Boulden continued her push for a place in this summer's Curtis Cup by finishing as the runner-up in the Hacienda del Alamo Ladies Open final in Spain .

The 16-year-old finished behind Scotland's Kelsey MacDonald, but beat other members of the preliminary Great Britain and Ireland squad to take on the United States in June, at the 3 rd Hacienda del Alamo Women's and Girls' Festival and maintain her good start to the season after winning the Murcia Ladies Open.

She finished just one shot behind MacDonald after three rounds, firing a final round of 71 compared to the Scot's score of 68

The Maesdu starlet is one of the crop of rising young stars who have won the Women's Home Internationals title for Wales in 2008 (at Wrexham) and 2009 (at Irvine, Ayrshire) and will be bidding for an unprecedented hat-trick on home turf at Whitchurch Golf Club, Cardiff from September 8 to 10.

By claiming victory at Haceienda del Alamo then a place on the Great Britain & Ireland team for the Curtis Cup match at Essex County Golf Club in Massachusetts from June 11 to 13 has become a real possibility for Boulden.

Because the GB&I team of eight is being selected in April, before the English, Scottish, Irish and Welsh closed championships, candidates for selection have to take the opportunity to impress the Curtis Cup selectors in overseas events.
