CHART HILLS GOLF CLUB MEMBERS THROUGH TO THE FINAL OF THE MACMILLAN LONGEST DAY CHALLENGE IN PORTUGAL
20th September 2010

Four members from Chart Hills Golf Club in Kent have won a coveted place at the final of the Macmillan Longest Day Challenge, to be held in Portugal over 10-12 October 2010

Simon Wilding, Ian Rutland, Martin Pawley and Cormac McCarthy

Simon Wilding, Ian Rutland, Martin Pawley and Cormac McCarthy took part in the Longest Day Challenge on June 21 st this year and raised over £6000 for the charity.

The challenge itself is run by Macmillan every year and asks golfers to complete 4 rounds of golf on one day and raise funds while doing so. The top four teams with a combined best score and the highest amount raised are then invited to take part in a final competition at the Boavista Golf Resort in Portugal .

The team set off at 4.45 in the morning and, with a quick stop for lunch came back to the clubhouse at 7.15 that evening.

Simon Wilding, who captained the team, said: "We are all avid golfers and of course wanted to raise funds for Macmillan. The fact that our team is in the final four is great news but not the reason we took part. We were one of 4 teams taking part on the day at Chart Hills and I believe that overall the amount raised at Chart Hills for Macmillan was in excess of £10,000."

Sarah Saunders, Chart Hills's Sales and Marketing Manager, is extremely proud of the team. She commented: "All of the teams did fantastically well on the day and we are so grateful that they made such an effort for Macmillan, which is also our Captains' charity this year. We are hoping that Simon and his team win overall of course and we will be keeping our fingers crossed that they bring the trophy home with them."

In 2009, 319 teams took part in the challenge and over £360,000 was raised to help people living with cancer in the UK .
