Hugo Dobson, wins Faldo Series UK Championship at Hollinwell Golf Club (Notts).
18th June 2010

a hugely promising member of the England "A" Squad from Fynn Valley Golf Club, Suffolk, extended his rich vein of recent form with an impressive victory at the Faldo Series UK Championship at Hollinwell Golf Club (Notts).

Dobson, a former England Schools champion and runner-up in the Under-15 age category at the 2005 Faldo Series Grand Final, arrived at Hollinwell having just won the inaugural South East of England Links Championship at Royal St George's and Royal Cinque Ports and he lived up to his billing as one of the favourites by posting rounds of 70 and 71 to claim first place in the Boys' Under-21 category and lift the overall prize on three under par 141, a single shot ahead of Andrew Scrimshaw (Prudhoe) and Greg Eason (Kirby Muxloe).

The impressive plus-2 handicapper now progresses to the 2010 Faldo Series Europe Grand Final, to be played at the Lough Erne Resort, Co Fermanagh, Northern Ireland, on September 21-23, where he will be joined by the other age group winners at Hollinwell, Scrimshaw (Boys' Under-18), Michael Pressick (Boys' Under-16) and Danielle Anderson (Girls' Under-21).

Dobson began the second round of the Boys' Under-21 event with a two shot lead over Jonathan Day (Braintree) and Chris Lager (The Leicestershire) and he never looked likely to relinquish that advantage after racing to the turn in level par 36 and then firing a birdie on the 364-yard par-4 10 th hole.

He went on to post eight successive par figures to finish two shots ahead of Day and four in front of Jack Mayfield (Kilworth Springs), both of whom matched Dobson's final round of 71. Lager, meanwhile, dropped back to fifth place with a closing 78.

Scrimshaw was also a man in form when he arrived at Hollinwell, having recently won both the Northumberland Schools Championship at Hexham and the NJGA 36-Hole Stroke Play Championship at Blyth.

He opened with a level par 72, to find himself two shots behind Eason, Craig Young (Ashbourne) and Paul Tiplady (Girton) but then fired an impressive two under par 70 in the second round to catch Eason before defeating his nearest rival in a sudden-death play-off. Young and Tiplady both carded five over par 77s to drop into a share of seventh place.

Pressick, from Rutland County, opened with a fine one under par 71 to share the lead in the Boys' Under-16 event with Harrison Woan from Overstone Park. He dropped shots on both the opening two holes of his second round but then recovered to post a 76 and claim a three shot victory over Woan and Lewis George from Delamere Forest.

Danielle Anderson, from Rochford Hundred Golf Club in Essex, also made a fine start to the Girls' Under-21 event when she posted a two under par 73 in the opening round. She needed 12 shots more to compete the fine Hollinwell course the following day but that was still enough to give her a four shot victory over Leighton Buzzard's Lizi Sweetnam and qualify for a place in the Faldo Series Europe Grand Final at Lough Erne Resort.

Zoe North (Kilworth Springs) was third in the Girls' Under-21 event after rounds of 82 and 83.
