Irish Seniors Amateur Open
26 May 2011

Hugh Smyth (Mourne) made a birdie at the final hole to clinch the Irish Seniors Amateur Open title by a single stroke from Adrian Morrow (Portmarnock).

Morrow had made a stirring final day charge at a sun-soaked Rosslare GC and needed two putts for a birdie at the long 18th and a 71 which would have seen him take the lead with Smyth, pictured above, waiting to play his second shot.

But after coasting the ball to three feet his birdie putt failed to drop and Smyth finished off what had been a difficult round in clinical fashion by finding the green and making two putts for a 75.

Overnight leader Michael Coote faded with an 80 to finish in fourth place.

Michael Coote (Tralee) took a one-shot lead at the Irish Seniors Amateur Open at Rosslare GC with a second round 74 vaulting him one shot ahead of his co-leader in round one, Hugh Smith (Mourne).

Meanwhile, Adrian Morrow (Portmarnock) and Peter McGarvey (England) shot best-of-the-day 73s to put themselves in contention for the title in tomorrow's final round.
