Ultimate amateur event provides unforgettable Ryder Cup experience -

Following on from a record number of entries in 2011, the Brabazon Challenge at The Belfry returns again this year to give amateur golfers the chance to test their matchplay nerves on the four-time Ryder Cup course.

A total of 142 pairs took part in the 2011 competition that saw Edwin Martin of Upminster Golf Club & Kevin Lye of Romford Golf Club edge out Purdis Heath's Peter Brady and Rotherham 's Peter Mogan 3&2 in the final.

"The Brabazon Challenge offers the nearest opportunity for club golfers to play in the Ryder Cup," said the victorious Edwin Martin. "The condition of the course is truly top class and it offers some of the best matchplay holes in the world. We're already looking forward to returning to The Belfry to defend our title," he added.

For just £199, pairs can enter the Stableford competition for 2012 in one of six qualifying rounds staged between April and September. The top team from each of the six '2-ball better ball' qualifiers will progress to a Grand Finals weekend over 19-21 October, along with the two teams with the next highest scores from all qualifiers.

The six qualifying rounds will all take place on Tuesdays - 10 April, 22 May, 5 June, 10 July, 14 August and 18 September. Knock-out quarter finals will then be played on Friday 19 October, with the four winning pairs qualifying for dinner and bed & breakfast accommodation in the four-star hotel ahead of the semi finals the following day. The finalists then have a further night's accommodation before the final takes place on 21 October.

"The Brabazon Challenge continues to grow every year and we'd encourage more golfers to enter this year as it offers a great chance to play the course when it's at its best," said Director of Golf Gary Silcock. "We're proud of our relationship with nine of the world's leading golf manufacturers and their continued support will hopefully make the event even bigger this time around."
