England are again the Senior Men's Home International champions. After a 5 year gap, during which Ireland has reigned supreme, England regained the title when they beat the Irish 6-3 on the final day at Southerndown in Wales.

It was the strength in the foursomes that provided the foundation for England's success when they won all three games.

John Ambridge and Andrew Stracey beat Arthur Pierse and Garth McGimpsey 2 and 1 while Tyrone Carter and Chris Reynolds overcame John Mitchell and William Donlon by 1 hole.

But the largest winning margin was achieved by Charles Banks and Les Bruckner who beat Adrian Morrow and Maurice Kelly 5 and 4.

That meant England required just two wins from the six singles and they were achieved by Ambridge, who beat Pierse 4 and 3 and Stracey by 3 and 1 against McGimpsey.

Ireland secured two large victories of their own with Morrow beating Bruckner 5 and 4, the Englishman's only defeat in five games, while Michael Coote handed Carter his first defeat by 5 and 3.

But the title was already in England's grasp so the other two games between Kelly and Doug Cameron and Mitchell and Banks, were halved.

The victory came just a couple of weeks after England finished in third place in the European Senior Men's Team Championships in Portugal.
