WILTSHIRE DIVISIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP RESULTS

In sweltering weather with temperatures in the high 20's, firm and fast greens and punishing rough the competitors knew they were in for a stiff test on Sunday at Kingsdown and so it proved. Competition was for three new Championship Cups: the Stonehenge Cup for Cat 3/4, the White Horse Cup for Cat 2 and the Kennet Cup for Cat 1 players, all off full handicap with Cat 3/4 playing Stableford and the rest of the field Medal.

In the morning, best of the Stableford competitors, with 36 points, was Dharma Gurung (West Wilts) who became the first winner of the Stonehenge Cup.

Home club ex Captain, David O'Brien was second with 34 and Rob Stiff from High Post third with 33.

Our Picture shows, L-R, Geoff Titt (Wiltshire County President), Jamie Amor (Marlborough), Kingsdown Captain, Steve Kelley and Yoshio with their trophies.

Later in the day in the competition for the White Horse Cup, Marlborough junior, Jamie Amor stood on the 15th tee 2 under par. A poor finish by his standards, bogie, double bogie, bogie, par took him to 2 over, but off his 7 handicap his nett 67 was untouchable.

Rob Piesse from Chippenham took the runners up spot with 73 and host Captain Steve Kelley was third, also with 73 but losing on count back.

Jamie's great score looked like being the best of the day until, in the final group, and playing for the Kennet Cup Broome Manor's Yoshio Takeuchi came in with a staggering 6 under par score of 66. Playing off scratch this was good enough to win the Cat 1 Championship by 7 clear shots from his nearest rival, Steve Smith from The Wiltshire.

A tough day reflected in the CSS going +2, from 72 to 74

The thanks of all the competitors and the County officials must go to Kingsdown who have supported this inaugural Divisional Championship from the moment it was first suggested. The greenstaff presented the course in fantastic condition and all of the staff and home c lub members were tremendous hosts on the day. A big thank you Kingsdown!
