The Little Book of Golf
9th October 2012

There is something for everyone in The Little Book of Golf written by Dr Keith Soutar. Published by the History Press and illustrated by Fiona McDonald This is a gem of a book containing facts and information that would be an inspiration to compilers of quizes on golf, but just as fascinating for all followers of golf.

This sums up my own thoughts - My reading of the book made the rather boring flights between Bordeaux and Gatwick and return pass not only very quickly but the book made fascinating reading.

Full of "wit and wisdom" or "historical" gems like:-
"Knocked out at the US Open " -"in 1934 Bobby Cruikshank was leading the championship but after hitting a spectacular shotthrew his club in the air. It landed on his head and knocked him out. He recovered but lost his compsure and rythm and consequently lost the tournament"

Apart from such anecdotes there are sections on biographies - courses -history of golf clubs and much much more

"The Little Book of Gollf is not really a book that needs to be read from cover to cover; it is more a book that can be dipped into sporadically and enjoyed in short breaks. Painstakingly researched, and offering a refreshing insight into the game - from the essential to the downright quirky

I found the variety of information immense and of real interest to anyone passionate or even just interested in the game of golf.

It's a book well worth buying and reading, it's a handy size for taking with you on your travels, it would make an ideal present or stocking filler for Mums, Dads, brothers, sisters or friends.

The Little Book of Golf will bring hours of reading pleasure to every sports fan.

Personally, and I've been closely involved in the world of golf for more than 35 years, I think Dr Soutar's book is a must for our readers.

Golf is one of the most popular games in the world. That is a strange thing to say, since almost all serious golfers actually have a love-hate relationship with it. A good round can bring great joy and satisfaction, while a bad round can end in depression, a binge at the bar, arguments with one's partner and the need for prompt evasive action by the family cat.

Although this new addition to the acclaimed Little Book series is written in a light-hearted manner, it contains a wealth of information about every aspect of the game.

Learn about its long and speckled history and some of the quirky characters who have graced the links. It also has some advice on putting and chipping, two parts of the game which cause the occasional golfer frustration, heartache and sore knees after repeated attempts to break the clubs.

Failing that you will find a selection of unique anecdotes about the game's greats and plenty of intriguing trivia.

The perfect golf trivia book to dip in to A light-hearted book covering all you need to know, and a lot you will be surprised to know, about the sport- an experienced writer with a number of successful books to his credit it provides Ideal gift book
