New Get into golf sessions in Staffordshire
18th November 2012

STAFFORDSHIRE COUNTY GOLF PARTNERSHIP

WINTER may be on the way - but it is still a good time to give golf a go in Staffordshire.

Taster sessions and discounted coaching are on offer at golf clubs across the county as part of the national campaign to encourage more people to take up the sport.

And the clubs are even swapping the fairways for aisleways to help spread the message.

Customers at the Trentham Estate garden centre's Christmas event - which takes place on November 30 (6pm-8pm) on Stone Road - can try hitting real golf balls in a special inflatable net.

Lichfield Golf & Country Club is offering free taster sessions - with equipment provided - between December and March.

The sessions will be held on December 8 (2pm), January 10 (7pm), January 26 (1pm), February 21 (7pm) and March 9 (1pm).

The John Letters Golf Academy in Walsall is offering the ideal chance to work off the Christmas pounds with two new courses.

A Ladies Go 4 Green beginners golf programme - which features five group lessons for just £15 - starts on January 12 (12.30pm-1.30pm). All equipment is provided and all those taking part will receive a free golf club.

An adults Go 4 Green beginners programme - with five group lessons for just £25 - starts on January 14 (11am-12noon). Again all equipment is provided and those taking part each receive a free golf club.

The Academy is based at Calderfields Golf and Country Club, in Aldridge Road, Walsall, with further details from Paul Hebdon on 01922 613 675 or by emailing paulhebdon@johnletters.com

Says Sean Hammill, county development officer for the Staffordshire County Golf Partnership: "These schemes give anyone interested in trying golf the ideal opportunity to give it a go alongside people in a similar situation.

"It is a sport that offers a healthier lifestyle and, with the potential for club membership in the future, an enjoyable social life, too."

Get into golf is a national campaign to inspire new golfers run by the England Golf Partnership through its network of County Golf Partnerships, which work to grow the game.

Get into golf opportunities include free or low-cost beginner courses with PGA professionals. They are a fun and sociable way to start golf - and a great way to make new friends.
