Great Dane is new British Ladies Champion

29th June
Leslie Cloots of Belgium and Emily Pedersen of Denmark (On the right)

Copenhagen's Emily Pedersen, the current European women's amateur golf title-holder, is the new British women's open amateur champion.

Vagliano Trophy player Pedersen, who beat Curtis Cup Scot Gemma Dryburgh in the third round, beat
Belgium's Leslie Cloots by 3 and 2 in the 18-hole final of the championship at Royal St George's Golf Club, Sandwich in Kent today (Saturday).
Both players were under par at the finish of what was a quality match.

It is the first time since 2009 that the British title has not been won by a British girl.

What a difference 12 months make! In last year's championship at Machynys, South Wales, Pedersen, who played for Europe in the Junior Solheim Cup,  lost in the first round to Kilmacolm's Eilidh Briggs while Cloots was beaten in the second round.
Next year's British women's open amateur championship will be played at Portstewart Golf Club, Northern Ireland.
