De Vere Slaley Hall raises £19,000 for The Variety Club
November 24, 2011

Premier golfing venue De Vere Slaley Hall continues to raise funds for charity. For the second consecutive year the luxury Northumberland based venue donated a cheque to The Variety Club in excess of £19,000. The proceeds were raised following its 15th annual Past Captain’s Charity Golf Day and takes the total amount raised by the event to almost £200,000. The annual event welcomes a host of local businesses in order to raise money for charitable causes, including the likes of the Children’s Cancer Unit at The Royal Vitoria Infirmary, RSPCA, the Medical Foundation, Macmillan Cancer Support, and Mencap.

“We’re delighted with the sum raised again this year, which speaks volumes for the quality of the event,” commented Keith Pickard, De Vere Slaley Hall’s Director of Golf. “So many members and guests take time out of their schedules to make this a success and we’re extremely grateful for everybody’s support. Special thanks go to our main sponsors, Benfield Motor Group, as well as past captains and joint-organisers Arthur Turnbull and John Duffy for all their hard-work.”

Twenty-six teams took part in the event, which was played over the venue’s Hunting Course, host of the De Vere Club PGA Seniors Championship on the European Senior’s Tour and consistently named as one of the country’s best courses. The day’s itinerary also included a TaylorMade experience in the morning, followed by lunch, golf, pre-dinner drinks, dinner, prize presentation, evening entertainment, auction, and raffle. Participants praised the events light-hearted atmosphere, with some taking advantage of special rates offered at the stunning on-site Edwardian Hotel for the night.
