Macmillan Cancer Support Silverspoons Golf Competition

January 1, 2013

Sign up to the Macmillan Cancer Support Silverspoons Golf Competition and help change the lives of people living with cancer.

The men and lady members at your club can raise vital, life-changing funds simply by playing a round of golf at any time between now and October 31st.

More people than ever are living with cancer in the UK. By 2030 we predict four million will be living with the illness. Macmillan's aim is to provide each one of them with the support they need, so you’ll appreciate that they need your help more than ever.

In 2012 more than 600 golf clubs across the country teed off for Macmillan and raised over £40,000.

By taking part in the Silverspoons Golf Competition in 2013 you could help to raise money that will pay for a Macmillan nurse, helping people living with cancer to receive essential medical, practical and emotional support.

It’s really easy to take part, just follow the steps below to get started:

• Encourage as many members as possible to take part. It’s a chance to get the Ladies’ and Men’s sections of your club involved.
• Choose any day up to 31 October 2013 as your competition day and put up a poster on your club noticeboard so everyone knows about it. Why not make it a special competition day?
• Register to take part now.
• Decide on an entry fee for the competition - this money can form the basis of the donation to Macmillan.
• Now all you have to do is play. The competition should be played over 18 holes in Stableford or Stroke Play format with a full handicap allowance. It can be combined with any medal, Stableford or Stoke Play round.
•Remember to keep your results card in a safe place so you can fill in the results after everyone’s played.
• Send in your club’s donation and as soon as we’ve received it, we’ll send a silver spoon which can be awarded to your competition winner.

Full details, registration, a poster, some guidelines, a results card and further ideas for raising money can all be found at the Silverspoons page of the Macmillan Cancer Support website.

Note to Event organisers and Golf Clubs: If you are a charity or golf club raising funds through golf, please tell us all about it and we will feature your event here. Pictures from the event are very welcome and we will provide a link to your website or email. If you also have dates and basic details of forthcoming charity golf days, please send these for inclusion in our charity golf day calendar.
