English students score US wins

English students have notched up yet more wins on the US college circuit with victories from Laura Jones (pictured below), Carley Warrington and Nicola Race.

Laura Jones (Royal Liverpool) had a four shot win in the Sooner Athletic Conference Championships at Lincoln Park, Oklahoma. She had rounds of 72 and three-under par 69. Her team from Oklahoma City University won by 59 shots and qualified for their national championship finals. This was Laura's second win during this university year and her third in two year. Carley Warrington (Sickleholme) won her second tournament of the spring term at the Conference Carolinas women's championship. It was hosted by her university, Belmont Abbey College, North Caroline, over the Tanglewood Park course and played in tough conditions of wind and rain,
Nicola Race of Witham in Essex tied for first place in the National Junior College's women's region 2 championship at Crimson Creek, El Reno in Oklahoma. Nicola is a student at Redlands Community College, Oklahoma, and she and her team-mates filled five of the first six place in this event. They won the team title by a massive 81 shots. Leighton Buzzard's Lizi Sweetnam of Seminole State Community College was joint fifth.
Meanwhile Anna Scott (Consett & District) was fourth and only three strokes behind the winner in the Colonial Athletic Association's championship at Callaway Gardens Golf Club, Pine Mountain, Georgia. Anna's team from Georgia State University won their event.
In the end of season awards Olivia Jordan Higgins (Royal Jersey) and a student at Charleston Southern was Co-Golfer of the Year in the Big South Conference. Hannah Coles (Maxstoke Park) of Radford University, Virginia, was named to the 2009 Big South All-Conference team.
