A perfect partnership Volvo and the English Women's Golf Association
2nd April 2009
The English Women's Golf Association is delighted to announced that Volvo have become partners of the 2009 PING Women's Fourball Betterball Tournament of England.
Volvo's support links the tournament with the Volvo Masters Amateur Tour. The top two pairs from the PING final will play as individuals in the UK final of the Volvo Masters Amateur in October. There, they will have the opportunity to qualify for the Volvo Masters Amateur World Final at Finca Cortesin in Andalucia, Spain, in late October.
In addition, every player at the PING grand final and plate finals will receive a sleeve of Volvo-branded Srixon golf balls.
Volvo will have a presence at the two finals, which will take place on 7 and 8 September 2009 at PING's Gainsborough Golf Club in Lincolnshire.
EWGA tournament secretary Emma Lowe said: Volvo are one of the biggest names in golf and they are very keen to become more involved in the women's game.
Volvo's involvement with EWGA and the PING tournament is a huge boost for us and for our members, providing them with a fantastic opportunity to qualify for the UK final of the Volvo Masters Amateur.
Volvo is heavily involved in professional golf in Europe and in China and for the past 21 years the Volvo Masters was played at Valderrama. This year the World Match Play Championship will come under the Volvo banner and be played at Finca Cortesin.
Volvo also has a passion for amateur golf and over 75,000 golfers in two dozen different countries will battle through local, region and national qualifying events in the 2009 Volvo Masters Amateur. Their target is a place in the world final, which will be played at Finca Cortesin, only hours after the Volvo World Match Play Championship winner has been crowned.
The PING Fourball Betterball Tournament of England is run by EWGA for its club golfers and last year it attracted around 14,000 competitors. A new format this year offers more prizes to more golfers together with the opportunity for club winners to qualify straight through to either the grand final or the plate final.
