Sian James is runner-up in universities championship

Gloucestershire's Sian James (pictured below) was runner-up in the British women's universities strokeplay championship at Notts Golf Club. She was five-under par for the 54-hole event.

The title was won by Scotland's Jane Turner, a student at Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen. The 19-year-old spreadeagled the field with a first-round, six-under-par 69 and then added two rounds of 73 for an impressive 10-under-par total of 215.
Sian, a student at Birmingham University and the recent winner of the R&A scholars' title, was 10 shots adrift after her opening 79. However she halved the deficit with subsequent rounds of 70 and 71. Sian is a member of Bristol and Clifton Golf Club.
Katherine O'Connor of UW Newport edged out another Birmingham student, Lucy Williams (Mid-Herts), to take third place, with a total of 226.
