Is this a Guinness Record ?
On Saturday 31 July 2010 during an annual 18 hole mens stroke play event at Carluke Golf Club, The Bert Cutter Salver, an astonishing 4 holes in one were achievied by 4 separate golfers in the 13 strong field.. First to achieve the ultimate honour was 71 year old William Millar, (19 h/cap), using an 8 iron at the par 3 , 127 yard 11th hole "Glenburn". The hole which is one of the signature holes at Carluke is played from an elevated tee, to what was on the day a tight pin position, right at the front of the green which is protected by two bunkers. It was William's second golfing ace, having achieved his first at the 16th hole at Carluke 10 years ago. A short time later the second ace was bagged by 57 year old David Shearer (11 h/cap), who hit a 6 iron at the 167 yard par 3 16th hole, "Dodgers Last". It was also David's second hole in one, having gained his first at the 11th at Carluke in 2005. The two holes in one created a buzz about the clubhouse and both players adhered to tradition by placing bottles of whisky on the bar for others to join them in celebrating their achievement. However, there was more to come when 46 year old William Scott (18 h/cap), got his first hole in one when he holed his 9 iron tee shot at the 11th. Astonishingly, word of a fourth ace reached the clubhouse after 53 year old Jim Mc Cafferty (12 h/cap) holed his pitching wedge tee shot, also at the 11th for his first ace in competition although he got one in a bounce game in 2005 co incidently also at the 11th hole at Carluke. The club are currently awaiting verification of this achievement from Guinness World Records are considering how to mark the achievement.
