SEPTEMBER NEWS FROM MARLBOROUGH GOLF CLUB

The 30 th Anniversary Marlborough Golf Club Pro Am was held on Tuesday 14 th September in very challenging weather conditions. Sponsored this year by Towergate Risk Solutions and run by the PGA, the event had 23 teams including many who have supported the event over the years.

The first groups started in grey but passable conditions, the wind was not too bad however over the day it deteriorated and made of challenging conditions for all players. Despite the prevailing conditions, Trevor Jones from The Kendleshire GC was 3 under on the turn and then completed the course with a par on the back 9 to post a 3 under for the match.

It was Trevor's 5 th win in a row and as he now moves into golf full time and joins the European circuit he is clearly one to be watched for the future. 6 times Marlborough Pro Am winner George Ryall put in a good performance but couldn't match Trevor's fine performance on the day.

In the team competition, the Marlborough Captain's Team played an excellent round to post a 10 under with second place Towergate No. 3 team pipping Jim Old's team on count back. Both posted 7 under.

Once again, Callaway provided fabulous prizes for the winners including golf travel bags, golf club bags, putters and each amateur also received a fabulous Callaway "goodie" bag as a memento of the day. Naomi House was the chosen charity who will benefit from funds raised during the event.

At the prize giving presentation, Club Captain Neil Patch thanked the PGA, the sponsors, Towergate, Callaway and also Fish Bros Honda. "It was not the best of weather conditions, however golfers are hardy souls and judging from the feedback everyone has thoroughly enjoyed the day. I am delighted to report that we had several teams already commit for our 2011 Pro Am."

Results :

1 st Pro - Trevor Jones, The Kendleshire GC with Gross 69.

Tie for 2 nd - Richard Dinsdale, Parc Golf Academy and Chris Gill, Exeter Golf and CC who scored 71 Gross.

1 st Team - Marlborough Captains Team, Neil Patch (current MGC Club Captain), Les Trute and Gary Darrock (Pro Richard Dinsdale)

2 nd Team - Towergate 3 Team, Alex Thomas, Robert Pakeman and Martyn Ridler (Pro Mark Saunders, Stockwood Vale GC)

3 rd Team - Jim Old Team, Jim Old, Trish King, Jeff King (Pro Chrs Gill, Exeter Golf and CC)

The annual Medal Championships were held on 4 th September. Weather was ideal and course playing well, however many comments about the very trying pin positions! Nevertheless, some great scores.

1 st Richard Parker 76 - 7 = 69 (H'cap 6.1)

2 nd Nick Munton 82 - 12 = 70 (H'cap 11.3)

3 rd Sam Matton 69 - (-2) = 71 (H'cap -2.0)

Ladies Medal Championships CSS : 72 Par : 72

1 st Christine Christie 86 - 16 = 70 (H'cap 15.3)

2 nd Pauline Ruddick 84 - 12 = 72 (H'cap 12.2)

3 rd Heather Sayers 86 - 13 = 73 (H'cap 12.5)
