Teenagers shine in Spain Three teenagers shone in the Hacienda Del Alamo Ladies Open, the final event of the February women's and girls' festival in the Murcia region of south-east Spain.
England girl international Hayley Davis (pictured Left) set an unofficial course record of six-under par 66 in the event, while Lancashire champion Emily Taylor won the U18 title and English U16 schools' champion Amber Ratcliffe scooped the honours in her age group. Hayley, from Ferndown is Dorset, eventually finished third in the 54-hole tournament after adding rounds of 72 and 78. Her bogey-free 66 was the best round recorded by a woman but cannot stand as a record because preferred lies were in operation. Emily Taylor (Royal Lytham) led all the way to victory in the U18 section and eventually finished 12 shots clear of her closest rival. Earlier in the week she won the Murcia U16 Open by eight shots. The 15-year-old one-handicapper attributed her success to accurate iron play in the wind and rain. "The conditions made putting difficult," she said. Amber Ratcliffe, from Royal Cromer in Norfolk, was also a front runner and finished an impressive 20 shots ahead of the field in the U16 event. The 14-year-old, who plays off three, was also runner-up to Emily in the Murcia U16 Open. All three teenagers are members of English Women's Golf Association training squads.
