English trio reach last 16 in British girls' championship Three English players - Sophie Godley, Georgia Hall and Bronte Law - are through to the last 16 of the British girls' championship at Gullane, Scotland. The trio survived a very rainy day, when the local roads were flooded but the links remained open. Bronte described the conditions as "horrific." The 16-year-old from Bramhall, Cheshire, made her way through the first two rounds by beating first Maria Tonnessen of Norway 4/3 and then defeating Daisy Nielsen of Denmark by the same margin. She will play Margaux Vanmol of Belgium in the third round. Sophie Godley, from Lindrick, Yorkshire, edged through her first round with a one-up win over Caroline Nistrup of Denmark. She then beat Julia Neumann of Germany 4/3 and now meets Marina Stuetz of Austria. Georgia Hall, of Remedy Oak in Dorset, had a comfortable 5/3 win over Gemma Dryburgh of Scotland in the first round. But she had to go to the 19th to defeat Annette Lucia Lyche of Norway. She now takes on Chloe Williams of Wales. Two other English players reached the second round. English girls' champion Hayley Davis (Ferndown, Dorset) lost to Marina Stuetz 4/3, while Brogan Townend (Pleasington, Lancashire) was beaten by one hole by Ileen Nieuwenhuis of the Netherlands. Eight other English players were defeated in first round matches: Alex Peters (Notts Ladies) lost to Margaux Vanmol of Belgium 6/5. Elizabeth Mallett (Sutton Coldfield Ladies') lost to Julia Neumann of Germany 4/3. Shelby Smart (Knowle) lost to Frida Gustafsson-spång of Sweden 4/3.
