Portmarnock and Claremorris Win at Castlerock On the final day of the Chartis Cups and Shields finals at Castlerock Golf Club, it was Portmarnock and Claremorris golf clubs that triumphed in the Senior Cup and Jimmy Bruen Shield respectivley. Portmarnock layed claim to their first Senior Cup title since 2003 when they won the cup at Lisburn. The team won in real style, closing out the top three matches against their Warrenpoint opposition in quick succession. James Fox accounted for Paul Reavey of Warrenpoint on the 18th green, winning by a 2 hole margin, while Geoff Lenehan won the second match against David Barron by 2/1. It was Irish International John Greene who sealed the win for Portmarnock, closing out Colm Campbell Jnr by 3/2. The meeting of Claremorris and Forrest Little in the final of the Jimmy Bruen Shield, presented each club with a chance to earn their first ever green pennants and it was the Mayo outfit that triumphed with the final outcome coming down to the last match left on course in true Cups and Shields fashion. Having lost the top match, Claremorris rallied and when David Burke and Shane McGagh put their first point on the board, it was left to the pairings of Damien Burke/Des Griffith and Ger Noone/Martin Higgins to add the winning points which they did in style, clocking up 3/2 and 2/1 wins. All eyes will be on next year's finals and the path to Kinsale will be littered with many moments of agony and joy.
