A full field of 64 leading women golfers will contest the English open mid-amateur championship at Collingtree Park Golf Club, Northamptonshire, from Thursday, 30 June to Sunday, 3 July. The event is sponsored by Tourism Ireland.
The local challenge will be led by Wellingborough's Becky Gee, a Northamptonshire county player and the runner-up in this year's county championship.
Among the competitors who will lend an international flavour to the event is Emily Perry of New Zealand, who travelled here as part of her country's national team for the recent Astor Trophy which also involved GB&I, South Africa, Canada and Australia.
Emily, who has just turned 20, plans a professional career on the Ladies European Tour and is using her trip to Britain to gain experience and assess the potential competition.
Also in the field is Welsh international Katherine O'Connor, Claudia Lim from Australia and Spain-based Gemma Fuster.
Among the home competitors are 2009 English strokeplay champion, Charlotte Wild (Mere), and Tara Watters (Muswell Hill), twice the runner up in the English amateur. Both have represented England at the Home Internationals.
Former mid-amateur champion Katie Mundy of Dunwood Manor, Hampshire will be aiming to repeat her success of 2009. Katie is among a host of players in the field who are either at university in the US or have studied there.
They include Kirsty Condon (Blankney), Nicole Whitmore (Woburn), Raffi Dyer (Hayling), Sian Evans (Faversham) and Melissa Siviter (Enville).
The championship, which is open to players aged 18 and over, begins on Thursday when the full field plays 36 holes of strokeplay qualifying. The top 32 players will go forward to the matchplay stages and the final will be played on the morning of Sunday, 3 July. Spectators are welcome.
