HUNDREDS SWING INTO GOLF IN CORNWALL 2nd June 2012
Over 500 people had a go at golf during the hugely successful Cornwall Golf Week - and many of them plan to keep swinging.
The week was supported by 20 golf clubs and ranges which offered over 70 hours of free taster sessions. Two clubs, St Mellion and China Fleet, were also involved in The Big Swing in Plymouth city centre when an inflatable net, a chipping challenge, a putting mat and Tri-golf for children attracted nearly 200 passers-by to try golf.
People who took part in the get into golf activities were given information about follow-up opportunities and over 100 have signed up for individual coaching or group lessons.
The week was organised by the Cornwall Golf Partnership which works to grow the game in the county. County development officer Simon Wood said: "We had a fantastic time with hundreds of people taking the chance to try golf and the follow-up sessions have been very positive."
The week supported the national Get into golf campaign which aims to inspire people of all ages to take up golf.
Get into golf is run by the England Golf Partnership through its network of County Golf Partnerships. Together they work to grow the game and to achieve the EGP's vision of making England the world's leading golf nation by 2020.
