Ryan has a driving ambition - to get more people in Northumberland playing golf!

The 21 years-old former sports development coach is the new county development officer for the Northumberland Golf Partnership.

Ryan, a member at Morpeth Golf Club, will be helping spearhead the drive to provide opportunities for potential golfers of all ages and abilities to take up the sport.

He will be working with the Northumberland Union of Golf Clubs, the Northumberland Ladies County Golf Association, the Northumberland Junior Golfing Association and the Professional Golfers' Association to deliver a wide range of projects across the county which will open up golf for everyone from absolute beginners to those who want to get back into a sport they enjoyed in their younger days.

"Golf is a great game which can be enjoyed by all ages and abilities. As well as the sporting challenge, there are other benefits such as enjoying a healthy lifestyle out in the fresh air and the chance to meet people, make new friends and enjoy an active social life as a member of a club," says Ryan, a former Northumbria University student who has a Sports Development with Coaching degree

"My main aims are to further raise the profile of men's and women's golf and to ensure that people of all ages are given the opportunity to participate.

"Who knows - we might even unearth the region's own Tiger Woods!"

Clubs across Northumberland are already backing a national Get into Golf campaign which offers free taster sessions and discounted coaching and Ryan will be looking to build on the success so far.

The England Golf Partnership is a collaboration of a number of stakeholders in the sport including England Golf - the organisation formed by the merger of The English Golf Union and The English Women's Golf Association - the PGA, the Golf Foundation and Sport England.

In Northumberland the county partnership is supported by the Northumberland Union of Golf Clubs, the Northumberland Ladies County Golf Association, the Northumberland Junior Golfing Association and the Professional Golfers' Association.
