DERBY COLLEGE STUDENT GAINS INTERNATIONAL HONOURS

Derby College student, Greg Tickell has received an International call up to represent Wales in the Boys Home International Championships.

The Championships which are organised by the Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St.Andrews will see teams from England, Ireland, Scotland & Wales competing for the prestigious trophy at County Louth Golf Club, Ireland 7 th , 8 th and 9 th August.

County Louth Golf Club, or "Baltray", lies on the eastern coast of Ireland, situated 4 miles from the historic town of Drogheda. Established in 1892, this tough championship links golf course will play host to the series of round-robin matches between Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales.

The course has a tradition of hosting major professional and amateur, national and international events, most recently the 2009 Irish Open which was won by Irishman Shane Lowry, who was an amateur at the time, and a member of the Irish Boys Home Internationals team in 2005.

Greg has earned his call up following great performances this year in winning the

South Wales Boys Match play Championship and finishing tied 1 st in the Central Wales Boys Championship.

Greg who plays at Hallamshire Golf Club on the outskirts of Sheffield is a member of the Performance Golf Academy programme which works in partnership with Derby College.

Greg set a goal at the beginning of the year to gain international honours with Wales as his Grandmother is Welsh and Greg's dad Geoff Tickell represented wales as an amateur and a professional. Geoff is currently club pro at Hallamshire Golf Club.

Performance Golf Academy programme director Nigel Furniss explained; "All the team at Performance Golf are delighted for Greg who thoroughly deserves his selection following his hard work in preparation and solid performances this year."

Greg commented: "I would like to thank the team at Performance Golf for all their encouragement, advice and support in helping me to achieve my International call up. I am really looking forward to representing Wales in this prestigious and historic championship."
