Cornwall Golf Week tees off in April to inspire more people to play the game and it will be bigger and better than before.
The action starts with city centre taster days on Thursday and Friday, April 4 and 5, at Truro's Lemon Quay where passers-by will be invited to have a go at golf in the inflatable nets, on the portable putting green and on the Sweet Spot simulator.
Then, between 6-14 April, 24 golf clubs and ranges will be offering free taster sessions for newcomers and returners to the game. There will be plenty of follow-on opportunities, with all clubs offering a low-cost five-week programme of structured group coaching straight after the week.
Cornwall Golf Week coincides with the US Masters championship, when interest in the game will be on the upswing. It's part of a festival of golf weeks being held across the South West this spring, which support the national Get into golf campaign.
It's organised by the Cornwall Golf Partnership and county development officer Simon Wood commented: This promises to be the biggest project we've ever undertaken and we're hoping to attract hundreds of people to start playing. Last year 500 people had a go and we want to do better this year.
Golf is a great game for everyone who enjoys friendship, fresh air and exercise and this is the perfect time of year to start.
We're very excited about Golf Week because Cornwall has so much to offer the beginner golfer. Our golf clubs and driving ranges are welcoming and accessible and they are working hard to encourage more people to play.
The week will be featured in local radio and newspaper advertising and on the Partnership's fortnightly television programme, Golf in Cornwall, on alternate Mondays on Sky Television channel 212 and Freesat Channel 401.
