The Spanish Tourism Office Commits to Mixed Sponsorship in 2013
The Irish Mixed Foursomes for 2013 will be sponsored once again by The Spanish Tourism Office, reaffirming their support for Irish golf in this prestigious interclub event.
With entries each year from over 350 clubs, the Irish Mixed Foursomes has been staged every year since 1972 and is one of the most coveted titles in Irish golf.
The National Final in 2012 was staged at Clontarf Golf Club where Donegal's Rosapenna captured their first ever green pennant.
Albert Lee, Hon. Secretary of the Golfing Union of Ireland said We are delighted that the Spanish Tourist Board are continuing their sponsorship of this event, and the GUI look forward to developing and expanding our relationship over the coming years.
Gonzalo Ceballos, Managing Director of the Spanish Tourism Office, Dublin said This commitment to golf in Ireland and in particular, high standard, amateur golf, reflects the affinity between Spain and Irish golfers. We estimate ten per cent of the 1.2 million Irish tourists travelling to Spain in 2012 played golf while there. There is great value to be had when looking to play golf linked to accommodation. We are highlighting the lesser known areas for golf in Spain where there are over 400 golf courses. This year Costa Brava in Girona will provide a golfing prize to the winning club in the Irish Mixed Foursomes
The choice of the GUI as a partner for the Spanish Tourism Office in Ireland was influenced by the all island structure of the organization as well as the close contact the GUI has with its members and the fact that this event brings together lady and men golfers. We are proud to be involved in the Irish Mixed Foursomes for the second consecutive year.
