TitleDateSHROPSHIRE AND HEREFORDSHIRE COUNTY GOLF PARTNERSHIP
WOULD-BE golfers in the Oswestry area don't have to worry about the worst of the winter weather stopping them from giving the sport a go. The town's golf club has launched a new indoor coaching studio and is holding an open evening for anyone interested to come along and swing a golf club. The launch night will take place on Wednesday, February 27, at the club, which can be found at Aston Park, near Oswestry, from 5.30pm-8.30pm. Drinks and snacks will be provided. The new facility is part of the club's development plans under Richard Edwards, who has recently joined the club as head professional. His team will be on hand to offer free advice to those attending. Edwards is a PGA tutor, who coaches trainee professionals on how to coach, and has worked with both the Golf Union of Wales and the former English Women's Golf Association as a national coach. The state-of-the-art studio includes the latest video equipment and ball launch monitoring hardware and can be used by beginners starting out in the sport just as easily as experienced golfers looking to fine tune their game. It works just as well for the beginner, who can see where they need to improve their swing and understand better what the coach is teaching them, says Richard Edwards. I have used the facility to give lessons to players ranging from a single figure golfer to a 36 handicap lady and all have the found the feedback they receive very helpful in getting even more enjoyment from their golf. Further information is available from Richard Edwards on 07855 890117 or by emailing rjedwards13@yahoo.co.uk Golfers, non-golfers and families are welcome to attend the evening, which is supported by the Shropshire & Herefordshire County Golf Partnership . Says Mark Taylor, county development officer for the Shropshire and Herefordshire CGP: These kind of events are an ideal opportunity to give golf a go even in the midst of winter! The facilities at Oswestry will enable the coaching team there to deliver schemes to help people into the sport all year round. Golf is a sport that can be played by all ages and abilities, bringing both health and social benefits. It is never too late or too early- to take up the sport, while it is a sport you can return to in later life or take up after playing other sports. Playing golf can bring you some impressive health and well-being benefits that can help you look and feel at your best. Get into golf is a national campaign to inspire new golfers run by the England Golf Partnership through its network of County Golf Partnerships, which work to grow the game. Get into golf opportunities include free or low-cost beginner courses with PGA professionals. They are a fun and sociable way to start golf and a great way to make new friends. Discounted lessons can cost as little as £25 for a five-week course.
