Silverstone in pole position8th February 2013NORTHAMPTONSHIRE COUNTY GOLF PARTNERSHIP MIDLANDS GOLF WEEK SILVERSTONE Golf Club has put itself in pole position in the drive to encourage more people to Get into golf. The club, which borders the world famous Grand Prix circuit, proved quick off the mark by becoming the first club in Northamptonshire to sign up for Midlands Golf Week. PGA professional Rodney Holt will be offering free taster sessions to anyone wanting to try the sport. It is the first time that clubs from Northamptonshire have supported the annual week-long festival of golf, which is held across eight counties from April 12-21. More than 4,750 would-be golfers have seized the opportunity to give the sport a go during the first two years of the event. Now clubs from Northamptonshire will join those in Shropshire, Herefordshire, Leicestershire, Worcestershire, Warwickshire, Staffordshire and Rutland by putting golf at the heart of the local community. Activities on offer will range from free taster sessions and roadshows to coaching programmes and open days. The taster sessions at Silverstone Golf Club, in Silverstone Road, Stowe, take place on Saturday, April 13 (10am-11am), April 16 (1pm-2pm) and Saturday, April 20 (10am-11am). Says Rodney Holt: We are delighted to be part of Midlands Golf Week and I am really looking forward to teaching a whole range of would-be golfers from those who have never swung a club before to those who may be returning to the game or taking up golf after playing other sports. Midlands Golf Week and activities like our free taster sessions offer an ideal opportunity to show what golf has to offer from a healthy exercise in the fresh air to the great social life, or for those who want to take their interest further, the competitive side of the sport, too. For further details on the taster sessions at Silverstone GC ring 01280 850005 or email proshop@silverstonegolfclub.co.uk Says David Davis, county development officer for the Northamptonshire County Golf Partnership: "It is great to see such an early statement of support from Silverstone for Midlands Golf Week and I know many more clubs in the county are gearing up to announce events of their own. "It is thanks to the clubs throwing open their facilities to would-be golfers that Midlands Golf Week has proved such a success and we are delighted to be part of the campaign for 2013. Golf's winning combination of exercise, sporting skill and social interaction make it the perfect tonic for good health and happiness and Midlands Golf Week offers so many different ways to get involved whatever your age or ability.
