Tavistock ladies are Trust champions21st February 2013
They won the 2012 EWGA Trust Stableford Competition, beating over 140 other clubs to claim the trophy and a laptop computer. Their success was announced at the annual meeting of England Golf. Competitions secretary Shirley Trevena remarked: It's brilliant. We always support the Trust and we are absolutely thrilled to win a laptop for the ladies' section. The club has 110 lady members and 10, very eager, girls. Each year, ladies' sections are invited to fundraise for the EWGA Trust at a stableford competition. They are asked to make a donation based on the points scored by the top ten players in their competition and nationwide they raised over £2600. In Tavistock's nominated competition the top 10 players together amassed an impressive 388 points and they finished 20 points clear of their closest rivals. We had a very good total, everyone went mad and we had with 38s, 39s and 40 points! said Shirley. The EWGA Trust was founded about 30 years ago and makes grants to help girls start and stay in golf. Over the decades it has supported countless girl golfers and helped them benefit from playing the sport.
