| Dewi Weber (Netherlands) |
In this truly international amateur field, the leader at 5 under par, Dewi Weber, hails from the Netherlands, while three Spanish players, a German and an English girl were one shot behind.
The sun shone throughout the day, but a light north-easterly breeze meant that the ladies did not have it all their own way on the links. At one time it looked like Bethan Popel from Long Ashton would be the one to beat as she reached the turn in a remarkable 31 shots, 6 under par.
Her first 9 holes included four birdies, and an eagle 3 at the 464 yard 7 th hole. However it proved to be a tale of two halves for Bethan, with an inward half of 43 leaving her on level par, but still well in the mix.
The highest ranked WAGR TM player in the field, Australian Su-Hyun Oh, also finished on level par, having birdied two of the last three holes, while Becky Harries (Haverfordwest) eagled the 453 yard 18 th to finish on the same score.
Another eagle at the 18 th saw 2-time Curtis Cup player Bronte Law score a two under par 72, while her Curtis Cup teammate and defending Amateur Champion Georgia Hall finished with a four over par 76.
Completing the eagle tally for the day, Jennifer Ha of Canada holed her second shot at the 368 yard par 4 9 th hole. All to play for tomorrow, with the top 64 players qualifying for the match play stages, which start at the crack of dawn on Thursday morning.
