Win Bader Cup
Scottish couple
Brian and Doreen Fotheringham have won the Bader Cup at La Palmeraie
in Marrakesh, Morocco.
The final of
the mixed greensomes event was contested by 12 pairs who had qualified
during a year-long campaign involving golfers from 600 clubs throughout
the UK.
In temperatures
approaching 90 degrees, the Fotheringhams, from Canmore Golf Club,
Dunfermline, accumulated 42 Stableford points to win by one point
from John and Liz Ditchburn (Mid-Sussex) with Malcolm Weaver and
Janet Roberts, from Ludlow, Shropshire, edged into third place on
a countback.
All proceeds
from the Bader Cup, which has to date raised more than 150,000,
go to the Douglas Bader Foundation to assist disabled people. Lady
Joan Bader, the World War Two pilot's widow, presented the prizes
at the closing gala dinner.
This year was
the first time in 15 years that the final of the competition has
been held abroad, and plans are already afoot to take the final
back to Morocco next year.
