ALLAN
LAMB URGES SUPPORT FOR BARCLAYS GOLF CHALLENGE TO RAISE 30,000
FOR THE CHILDRENS SOCIETY
Former
England Cricket Captain Allan Lamb is urging golf enthusiasts everywhere
to join the third Barclays 72-Hole Golf Challenge and help raise
30,000 for The Childrens Society, one of Britains biggest childrens
charities.
This
years Golf Challenge takes place at Frilford Heath Golf Course,
Abingdon, Oxfordshire on July 28th 2000. Participants will be following in Allan Lambs
footsteps. He spent nine
hours and 35 minutes on the fairways last year and says, Its a
fantastic challenge that Id recommend to all golfers.
72 holes may seem like a hard slog, but my swing actually
improved by the forth round, spurred on by the fact that it was
all in aid of The Childrens Society.
Teams
of three from any company or organisation are invited to play 72
holes of golf in a day without using buggies. This means walking 26 miles the equivalent
of a marathon during the course of the event, which starts at
4.30am and finishes with a buffet supper and celebrity prize giving
at 9pm. Each team member must raise a minimum of 500
for The Childrens Society.
There
will be opportunities for team members to pick up tips on improving
their golf. Their play will
be videoed, then a golf pro will analyse their swing and suggest
adjustments. There will
be regular breaks and food and refreshments will be supplied. Neck and foot massages from a professional masseuse will also be
provided.
The
Childrens Society works with thousands of Children, young people
and their families in more than one thousand projects throughout
England and Wales. Projects
include streetwork and refuges for young runaways, family centres
in areas of high unemployment, independent living projects for young
people leaving care and support for children with disabilities.
If
you would like more information about taking part in the Barclays
Golf Challenge please telephone the event hotline on 020 7278 5769.
