Van
de Velde Back at Carnoustie Again
Jean
Van de Velde, whose name will forever be associated with Carnoustie
following his disastrous final-hole collapse in the Open last year,
will return to the Tayside links on September 25 to host the UK
final of the 2000 Jameson International Challenge.
The
winners of Stableford or medal events at 50 golf clubs throughout
the country will qualify for Carnoustie while the overall winner
will go on to represent the UK at a world final in Ireland in April
next year.
The
first club to hold a qualifier for this year's Jameson event was
Denham in Buckinghamshire where the winner was George Baker with
a net score of 66.
Over
5,000 golfers from the UK took part in 1999 and an overall worldwide
entry of 20,000 is expected this year.
*Anyone
who holes in one at a designated par-three during this year's qualifying
events will win a magnum of Jameson whiskey and 1,000 for a registered
charity of his or her choice.
