Monty Set for 2000 Lexus Final

European No 1 Colin Montgomerie has committed himself to supporting the Lexus-sponsored amateur European Golf Cup again this year.

The tournament is by invitation to customers from Lexus centres and the organisers hope there could be as many as 50 qualifying events in Britain this year, each consisting of 32 players.

The leading four players from each qualifier will go through to represent their Lexus centre in one of four regional finals - at Chart Hills (Kent) on September 6, Slaley Hall (north-east) on September 8, Notts Golf Club on September 11 and Celtic Manor (south Wales) on September 13.

The UK final will be held over 18 holes on the West Course, Wentworth on October 18 and the top three teams will go through to the European Final at Fregate Golf Resort near Nice in the South of France on November 17-20.

Montgomerie will hold a golf clinic for the finalists and attend the gala dinner in France, just as he did during last year's final at La Manga Club in southern Spain.
