WIMBORNE
PAIR HEAD FOR PORTUGAL
The
Sturnminster Marshall partnership of professional Graham Howell
and 12-handicapper Paul Fowell have won themselves a luxury trip
to Portugal after a fine win on Tuesday 9th May in Europes
biggest pro-am, the Lombard Trophy.
They
were competing against 80 other pairings in the South Wales and
west region final qualifier over the Roman course at Celtic Manor
Golf Club, near Newport.
Graham
and Paul were one place away from victory two years ago, so now
they can pack their bags for five-day stay at the Dona Flipa Hotel
in the Algarve at the end of September, when theyll take on 13
other regional winners from Britain and Ireland.
The winning professional picks up 5,000, playing over the
renowned San Lorenzo course.
The
Wimborne pair carded a four-under 65, winning by a stroke from three
other clubs. Said Graham
Paul played the short holes well, and he revitalised our challenge
when he got a net eagle on eagle on the 14th. If he plays like that in October Ill be very happy.
Graham
himself had contributed two birdies and kept the ship steady with
vital pars when his amateur partner was out of it.
