Monty at the Dome.
Visitors
to the Millennium Dome in London are to be exposed to the Full Monty
this Easter when Colin Montgomerie,
Europe's No 1 golfer for the past seven years, swings into action
for the launch of
BAE Systems National Golf Week.
Monty
and other celebrities will be joined at the Dome on Thursday, April
20 by a team of PGA
professionals who will give free golf lessons in the main arena
to beginners and newcomers.
The
'Learner Driver' themed campaign extends throughout the UK and Ireland,
and a special information
Golfline (08706-003330) will stay open until the beginning of next
month to provide
callers with the details of their nearest participating professionals
giving free individual
and group lessons from April 21 to May 1.
P.Y.Gerbeau,
newly appointed chief executive of the Dome's management company
NMEC, said:
"A day at the Dome is all about learning new experiences and
the opportunity for visitors
to have a go under the watchful eye of PGA professionals as an added
attraction.'
The
campaign, aimed at encouraging youngsters and adults to take up
golf, is being supported
by hundreds of professionals at golf clubs and driving ranges throughout
the British
Isles, including such prestigious championship venues as Turnberry,
Slaley Hall and The
Belfry.
Sandy
Jones, chief executive of the Professional Golfers' Association,
said: "Golf is a sport for
everyone and the chance to stage a special event with Colin Montgomerie
at the Dome is a
major coup for all involved in encouraging newcomers to the game.
This has been made possible
thanks to BAE Systems who are also sponsors of the Mind Zone."
The
campaign has been designed to coincide with the Easter holidays
so that juniors can take
part in midweek programmes.Working
adults will also have the chance to get involved as this year's
event has been extended
to incorporate both the bank holiday weekends.
Events
and activities being staged throughout the regions during the week
will include: free lessons
for beginners, family competitions, 'ladies only' learner clinics,
junior events and competitions,
and an 'introduce a friend' promotion.
Last
year's campaign, part of a three-year promotion under the sponsorship
of BAE Systems, involved
600 facilities throughout the UK and introduced more than 23,000
new golfers to the game.
