Nicklaus
Boost for NSPCC
Europe's
largest ladies' amateur tournament will be sponsored again this
year by Nicklaus Golf Equipment - and is set to be the biggest and
best yet.
The
NSPCC Ladies' Golf Classic attracted entries from more than 12,000
players and 400 clubs in 1999 and raised 15,000 for the charity,
bringing the total collected in the tournament's nine-year history
to more than 100,000.
This
will be the third year Nicklaus Golf Equipment has sponsored the
event and the competition will be open to golfers in Scotland for
the first time. World Golf Tours have donated a holiday to the Masters
at Augusta worth nearly 4,000 as first prize in the grand draw.
Former
world No 1 Laura Davies will once again be tournament patron. "Every
lady golfer should play in this great event'" she said. "It
gives them the chance to test their golf against other ladies at
prestigious golf courses whilst helping the NSPCC to end cruelty
to children."
During
July and August, 12 regional finals will be played, with the winning
pair contesting the final in October at a top venue which is yet
to be announced.
