Strachan in Golf Record bid

Coventry City manager Gordon Strachan and snooker star Willie Thorne are joining Nailcote Hall's proprietor Rick Cressman in a challenge to play a world-record number of par-three holes in one day on June 21 to raise funds for the NSPCC.

Cressman said: "I'm delighted Gordon and Willie are joining me because if a record is to be set that the Guinness Book of Records acknowledges, I'm sure we'll need some fit professionals and good players."

Any participant raising over 150 on the day will receive a bottle of wine, over 250 a bottle of champagne or a beauty treatment, and over 500 a Sunday lunch for two in Naiclote Hall's Oak Room Restaurant while the person raising the most money will be invited to take part in a Poirot-style 'Murder Mystery' weekend.

Anyone wishing to support the event can call Victoria Maher at the NSPCC on 0121-580-0122 or Claire Hudson at Nailcote Hall on 024 7646 6174.

*The 1,031-yard, nine-hole Cromwell course at Nailcote Hall plays host to the British Professional Short Course Championship from August 15-16.
