NSPCC
Launches
Mixed Golf Classic
The NSPCC has
announced it is to launch a Mixed Pairs Tournament for amateur golfers
in 2001 to run alongside the well-established and very popular Ladies
Classic.
The formats
will be very similar with entrants playing qualifying rounds at
their own clubs. The winners from each club play in one of eleven
Regional Finals held across the country. From them, each winning
pair is invited to play in the all-expenses-paid Grand Final at
the magnificent Forest of Arden course in October 2001.
Tournament Director
David Wolstenholme said the ladies tournament has gone from strength
to strength. We are very grateful to our main sponsors, Specialist
Sports Travel, Nicklaus Golf Equipment and SportsCard, helping to
keep overheads and costs to an absolute minimum, providing more
funds for the Society. We are all very excited about this new tournament
and we are delighted that Laura Davies has again offered her patronage.
Laura Davies,
Europes finest ever lady golfer is a keen supporter of the NSPCC
and the benefits of these tournaments. I am delighted to be Patron
of these marvellous events. Not only because the NSPCC is such
a good cause, but also because of the benefits for club golf in
general and ladies golf in particular. I do not think there are
enough competitions of such prestige and ambition for ladies to
enter.
All entrants
to the qualifying rounds receive a raffle ticket which could win
them a fabulous holiday for two worth almost 4000. The first prize,
donated by Specialist tours of Hebden Bridge, is a trip for two
to the US Masters; the worlds most prestigious golf tournament.
Second prize
is a weekend for two including golf, accommodation, breakfast and
dinner, courtesy of the Forest of Arden.
Potential sponsors,
clubs offering hospitality or players wishing to know more about
