SIX
NEWCOMERS TO FACE SCOTS IN UNDER-16 INTERNATIONAL
England have
named six players new to international golf for the annual Under-16
clash with Scotland at Brancepeth Castle, County Durham, on Sunday
8th October.
Farren Keenan,
Paul Jones, Robert McGregor, Peter Richardson, James Ruth and Lee
Shepherd will be making their international debuts in the 10-strong
England squad that will be defending the unbeaten record in their
contest. The rest of the line-up will be Eren Behcet, Simon Bell,
Jamie Moul and Michael Skelton.
Behcet, Bell
and Skelton played in last years match at Drumoig while Behcet,
Moul and Skelton were members of the England team for this years
Boys Home Internationals in Portmarnock.
Behcet, 16,
from Kent, also played against Italy Under-16s at Woodbury Park,
Devon in June, then finished third in the English Boys under-16
Strokeplay Championship for the McGregor Trophy at the same venue.
Moul, from Suffolk,
who will turn 16 on 26 September, made his international debut in
the Boys Home International, having finished fourth in the Carris
Trophy.
Skelton, 16,
is the current English under-16 champion having won the McGregor
Trophy at Woodbury Park in June. From Yorkshire, is arguably the
most experienced of the squad. He finished runner-up in the British
Boys Championship at Royal St Davids in 1999, has also played against
Scotland and Italy at under 16 level and, with Behcet, represented
England in the European Young Masters in Turin in July.
Of the newcomers,
Keenan, 15, was a member of the Surrey side that won the Boys County
Finals at East Devon earlier this month, while Ruth finished third
in the McGregor Trophy. He is the 15-year-old son of Tavistock Golf
Club secretary and former Devon county player Graham Ruth.
Jones, 16, won
the South of England Boys Championship with four sub-70 rounds.
MacGregor, 16, was fourth in the same event, while Shepherd, 16,
reached the third round of the British Boys Champion after two extra
hole victories. Richardson, 16, won the Northern Order of Merit
in the Faldo Series.
