ENGLAND
SWEEP THE BOARD IN GREECE
Daniel Wardrop, (Didsbury Golf club) crowned a fine season by winning the Greek
Amateur Championship played at Glayfada Golf Club, Athens 27th-30th September.
Wardrop returned a 5 under par total of 283 to win by 7 strokes from fellow England
team member Barry Barker (Reddish Vale Golf Club), with third team member Ricky
Blaxhill (Wanstead Golf Club), a semi finalist in this years English Amateur Championship
a further 6 strokes back in 5th place.
The English team romped away with the Nations Cup, 17 strokes clear of second
place Slovenia.
Wardop obviously delighted with his victory said "This was an important victory
for both me and the England team and was a great way to finish what has been a
long and successful season for me personally"
Wardrop and the England squad now turn their attentions to the English Golf Union's
National Coaching Programme which begins at Woodhall Spa on October 18th in preparation
for the 2002 playing season.
