Amateur Matchplay
Golf Tournament:
Sponsorship Deal Rolls On
This year's National Amateur Matchplay Golf Tournament is once again
being sponsored by National Car Rental.
The company are now in their seventh year of backing the competition
and have seen it go from strength to strength in recent times.
Last year, 3,500 pairs entered the matchplay competition and after
the UK
final at Hawkstone Park in Shropshire the leading 16 went on to
the grand
final at Vilamoura in the Algarve.
National
Car Rental's senior marketing executive Alistair Spooner said: "The
standard of golf was exceptional this year, which created such a
great
atmosphere among the competitors.
"The singles proved to be very close fought match, with Kevin Taylor
and
Leigh Ankers leading the league table with three-and-a-half points
each after
only four rounds.
"Eventually, Ankers took the title with Taylor securing second place."
In
the 2000 event, National Car Rental were able to provide vehicles
to
transport players and their clubs between courses, hotels and the
airports.
Spooner
added: "National Car Rental has a tradition of sponsoring some of
the
world's finest golf events and this is why we recognise the National
Amateur
Matchplay championships as being such an important tournament in
the amateur
golf calendar."
Application
forms for the 2001 tournament are available from National Car
Rental branches.
