US
Open Exemption For Top-50
The top-50 in the official world rankings on May 1 will from now
on be fully exempt for the US Open.
The United
States Golf Association's executive committee previously only granted
automatic spots to the top-20 at the end of the preceding year.
The committee have also extended exemptions to the leading two end-of-season
money-winners on the Japan and Australasian PGA Tours, provided
those players are ranked in the top-75 in the world at the time.
For this year's
$5 million US Open at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa,
Oklahoma from June 14-17, the two Japanese exemptions go to Shingo
Katayama and Toru Taniguchi, but the Australasian season does not
end until the middle of next month.
