WISHBONE
GOLF 2001
Book NOW For Remaining Places
Keen
golfers are invited to book now for the few remaining team places
in The Wishbone Trust's second national golf competition, Golf
2001. There are 10 regional qualifying heats in some of the country's
most prestigious venues - one each in Scotland and Wales and eight
in England - during April, May and June.
There
is still time to apply for places in the later heats. A national
final, sponsored by Smith & Nephew, will be held on the highly
acclaimed Marquess Course at Woburn Golf Club on Friday, 12th October
2001.
The
Wishbone Trust provides funds for orthopaedic surgery research in
hospitals and medical centres throughout the UK. In the last 10
years, the Trust has given more than 4.5 million in grants for
research into birth defects, bone cancer, limb lengthening, fractures,
sports injuries, road accidents, arthritis, joint replacement, osteoporosis
and the many conditions of ageing bones. Much of this money
was raised by former patients wishing to give their thanks in a
tangible way.
The Trust held its first national golf competition, Golf 2000, last
year which proved enormously successful, raising 110,000 for the
charity. The Stableford competition (two best scores to win) is
open to teams of four, and there will be a maximum handicap of 32
for women and 24 for men. Many of the teams will be consultant orthopaedic
surgeons, or other members of the medical profession, former patients,
their relatives and friends and other supporters.
There
are two opportunities to win through to the final. From each heat
the winning team will automatically go forward. In addition, the
team raising the highest sponsorship at each heat will also be offered
a final place.
'We select our venues with care so, win or lose, we offer an excellent
day's golf and a terrific atmosphere in beautiful surroundings.'
says Mrs Jackie Alliss, Director of Golf. Golf 2001 is supported
by both Peter and Jackie Alliss and Sir Michael and Lady Bonallack.
Lady
Bonallack says: 'This is a marvellous event. I have a personal reason
for supporting it. After some years of pain and increasing
disability, I had both hip joints replaced in a single operation
and, as a result, returned to playing. It was a great joy. I even
reduced my handicap!'
Team
entry fees are 200, which includes all green fees and lunch. For
