NATIONAL
GOLF WEEK IS ON LINE

British Aerospace
National Golf Week is set to take off following a phenomenal response
from PGA Professionals answering the call to offer free lessons
to thousands of new golfers.
This year a
record 560 professionals are backing the campaign which is being
staged from 10-18 April to encourage beginners to take up the game.
Some of the UK's most prestigious European Tour and Open Championship
venues are lending their support including Turnberry, St. Andrews,
Slaley Hall, the Marriott Forest of Arden and St. Pierre and The
Belfrey, venue for the 2001 Ryder Cup.
A special "Golfline"
swings into action from 17th March to 18th April manned by 120 trained
operators who will be standing by to answer an expected huge surge
of enquiries from enthusiastic new golfers.
The information
hotline for callers from the UK is 0990 44 7788 and for Ireland
01 638 0275, providing details of participating professionals
and events to anyone interested in taking part in the British Aerospace
National Golf Week.
Commenting,
Sandy Jones, Chief Executive of The Professional Golfers Association
said: "We are obviously delighted with the high level of commitment
from our members and the numbers taking part is increasing daily.
This tremendous response has been helped by Colin Montgomerie who
has given extensive support to the campaign".
British Aerospace
National Golf Week coincides with the Easter holidays which provides
greater opportunities for juniors to take part in mid-week programmes.
The weekend start and finish will also give venues and adults an
added benefit. Events and activities being staged throughout the
regions during the week will include:
- Free lessons
for beginners
- Family competitions
- "Ladies
Only" learner clinics
- Junior events
and competitions
- Introduce
a friend promotion
Last year's
campaign, the first of a three year £300,000 promotion under
the sponsorship wing of British Aerospace and a Sportsmatch award,
involved over 400 facilities throughout the UK and generated more
than 22,500 new golfers.
