ROYAL BLACKHEATH GOLF CLUB AND COMEDIAN
FRANK CARSON TEAM UP TO RAISE OVER £30,000
IN CHARITY GOLF DAY
The
Royal Blackheath Golf Club Charity Day, helped along by comedian
Frank Carson, has raised over £30,000 for charities. These
include the Peter Alliss Wheelchair Fund, the Duke of Edinburgh's
Award Scheme, Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital and some 30
local charities.
Simon
Earl of the Royal Blackheath Golf Club said: "19 teams made
up of members from the Club and London City firms took part in the
day. Money was raised through auctioning the tees and various items
which had been donated to the Club for the event. This included
over £3,000 for a football signed by the Manchester United
treble winning champions and £400 for a cricket bat signed
by the England and South African test cricket teams of 1998. Other
prizes ranged from a day with Peter Alliss, a round of golf with
the Portuguese Open winner Van Phillips and tickets to EuroDisney.
"It
was a great day for everyone. Club staff worked hard to ensure that
guests enjoyed the day and also that they parted with their money.
However, this was not a difficult task as once again people were
happy to give to the many worthy causes which we support. One of
the participants even flew in from the States to take part in the
day!"
"There
are so many people we would like to thank from our staff, the many
organisations and people who donated gifts and, of course, the teams
that took part and donated so much money."
"To
use Frank Carsons' catchphrase, "it was a cracker!"
