STARS SHINE
Two
of England's brightest young stars, Nick Dougherty and Rebecca Hudson,
won the boys' and girls' sections of the Canon European Under 21
Golf Championships Final.
The
54-hole tournament played over the demanding Almenara Course at
Sotogrande, Spain brought together under-21 year old players from
ten European countries.
Dougherty,
with a final 1 under par 71, overcame a strong field including the
British Youths' Champion, Alfonso Guitierrez, and Nicolas Colsaerts,
junior Ryder Cup player from Belgium, who finished second and third
respectively.
In
winning the Championship the 17 year-old Dougherty receives an invitation
to the Canon European Masters in 2000.
In
the girls' section, it was Rebecca Hudson's second round score of
a 2 under par, 70, that set up her 2 shot victory over compatriot
Sara Garbutt with 14 year old Laure Sibille from France a creditable
third.
The
Curtis Cup player's victory wins her a spot in the 2000 Compaq Ladies
Open on the ELPGA Tour.
