1999 English Qualifying Event

Woodhall
Spa was the venue of the first Qualifying Event of the 1999 Canon
European Under 21 Golf Championships to find a successor to last
year's winner, Sergio Garcia.
75
players with handicaps of 4 and better competed on Monday 14th June
over the Bracken and Hotchkin Courses at Woodhall Spa. The leading
36 players then completed the final 18 holes on Tuesday 15th over
the Hotchkin Course, rated as probably the best inland test in the
UK.
Played
in glorious weather and the course in magnificent condition, the
winner by two shots was +1 handicapper and English boys international,
Tom Whitehouse from Maxstoke Park GC, with a score of 216 - 2 under
par. Runner up was Nick Knighton of Longcliffe GC with a score of
218.

four qualifiers who go forward to compete in the final at Sotogrande,
Spain on 2nd and 3rd October:
