JUNIOR
GOLF TOUR 2000
Sponsored by
The Times, Golf Monthly, Golf International and Bunkered and Patronised
by David Leadbetter, the Junior Golf Tour 2000 promises to be an
exciting series of events for junior golfers.
Boys Junior Golf Tour
The schedule
for the Junior Golf Tour 2000 will have youngsters playing at some
of the UK's top golf courses including Royal Birkdale, Turnberry
and St Andrews. The programme consists of 42 events, divided into
UK National Tour, Scottish Tour, Northern Tour, Southern Tour and
Girls Tour.
Now entering
its seventh year, the winners of each event on the tour will receive,
along with a trophy, an invitation to take part in the final, The
Tournament of Champions, to be held at Chart Hills Golf Club over
two days.
The objective
of the tournament is to offer young golfers the opportunity of playing
a widely contrasting selection of top class golf courses throughout
the UK against similar opposition and under competition conditions.
The Junior Golf Tour provides each individual with the opportunity
of testing their skill over a season of golf on an order of merit
basis and in the process gain the necessary experience required
to genuinely lower their handicap rating.
During the tour,
there will be ten events in the UK National division, eight in the
Scottish national, Northern and Southern divisions. Eighteen holes
of strokeplay will be played at each venue. The various tour champions
will be ultimately decided by the lowest aggregate seven gross scores
of ten submitted by each competitor on the UK National Tour and
the lowest aggregate six gross scores of eight from competitors
on the Scottish National, Northern and Southern Tours.
Girls Junior
Golf Tour
For girls, the
competition is a National Tour, comprising of eight events, all
at first class venues. For the winners of each event on the tour,
there is also an invitation to take part in the finale, The Tournament
of Champions to be held at Chart Hills GC.
A maximum of
twenty-seven girls will be accepted as members for 2000 on a space
available basis. There are trophies for the winners of each event
and for the overall tour winner.
As with the
Boys' Tour, each event provides individuals with the opportunity
of testing their skills over a season of golf on an order of merit
basis. The Girls Tour Champion will be ultimately decided by the
lowest aggregate four best gross scores submitted by each competitor.
The Junior Golf
Tour has developed a relationship with the American Junior Golf
Association and each year two boys and two girls are invited to
compete as guests of the AJGA at their annual All-American Junior
Championship. Depending upon various criteria, judged throughout
the year, including performance, conduct and personal presentation,
two boys and two girls will be selected to represent the Junior
Golf Tour at this championship and travel as part of the team in
November 2000. The Patron of the Tour, David Leadbetter, funds the
trip and it is planned that the four invitees will meet him at his
coaching facility in the US for personal tuition.
